Zeelugt, Zeeburg & Bellevue record wins over the weekend

Action continued over the last weekend in the West Demerara Cricket Associatio­n’s (WDCA) Jits & Neelam 40-Over competitio­n and saw Zeelugt, Zeeburg and Bellevue all racking up wins.

At the Zeelugt community ground, the hosts had an easy five-wicket win over Goed Fortuin. The latter batted first and were skittled for just 110 in 22.2 overs, 34 runs of that total came courtesy of extras. Leading the way for Zeelugt with the ball was spinner Khandiya Ramkarran who snared 3/8 while Tameshwar Dass (2/22) and Mahendra Persaud (2/18) showed good support. In reply, Zeelugt raced to victory at 115/5 in just 17.4 overs as Tamesh Mohabir spanked 37 inclusive of five fours while Khandiya Ramkarran returned with the bat to craft 25.

At Meten-Meer-Zorg Community Centre Ground, the home side lost to Zeeburg.

Batting first, the hosts laboured to 181 all out In 39.4 Overs with West Demerara U- 15 Captain Pameshwar Ram top scoring with an attractive 62 while Dinesh George (18) and Navindra Sankar (15) were the only other batsmen to contribute. Malcolm Hubbard (3/18), Mark Jeffrey 2/8) and Sheldon Alexander (2/26) made inroads for Zeeburg. In response, the visitors chased down the total with four wickets to spare ending on 182/6 with Arshad Azim recording 51 while Vishal Persaud (33) contribute­d to the successful run chase.

Over at Bellevue community ground, the hosts beat Cold Fusion by seven wickets, after winning the toss, Cold Fusion elected to bat and could only compile 112 all out in 21.5 overs. Diquan Campbell top scored with 24 while Rollen Ramdeen supported with 21. Bowling for Bellevue, veteran spinner Krishna Singh impressed with figures of 5/8 in 3.5 overs. Bellevue then chased down the target in 24.4 overs ending on 113/3 with Ryan Seecharran leading the side home on 34 not out while Randy Ramroop (26) and Robin Seecharran (22) chipped in with valuable runs.
