Looking forward in anticipation to my $25,000 cash grant and increase in old age pension

It is about 14:50 hours today, Thursday 10th January, when the ‘black out’ started in Meadowbrook Gardens. I had just started to listen to the radio. No sooner my favourite program began the power went off. I thought of the millions of barrels of oil and the billions of US dollars. The fact is I can’t receive my $25,000 pension cash yet, although they delivered my new pension book early before the end of the year, and repeatedly I sent someone to find out about the $25,000, only to hear that it will be soon. Why do geriatrics have to be treated so in an oil rich country where they have struggled for years for betterment? Dr. Cheddi Jagan would have never allowed these sad situations to exist for so long.

I knew him for several years, visiting my village and showing how he would transform the community and the country along the socialist path where the government is responsible for the good living standard of its people for them to have proper homes, food, clothes, etc. He used to encourage us to squat on lands and erect houses. He loved the people and wanted them to live comfortably in rural communities, away from the towns. There they can fish, farm, rear animals and be engaged in other activities to earn a living. I wish he was alive today to implement the right policies for this country, and particularly for the elderly, who have done so much in developing the rice, sugar, timber, mineral industries, etc. I look forward to having my cash grant of $25,000 and anticipate an increase in old age pension soon.
