Four in custody after eight fields of ganja destroyed at Yarrowkabr­a

An intelligen­ce-led Police operation was conducted yesterday between 4 am and 11.30 am in Yarrowkaba­ra backdam off the Soesdyke/Linden Highway, which resulted in the arrest of four persons and the discovery of eight fields of Cannabis Sativa (marijuana) plants.

The operation, led by an Assistant Superinten­dent from Special Branch and comprising several ranks from Regional Division 4B, resulted in the discovery of well-cultivated narcotics (Cannabis Sativa) plants ranging from two feet to three feet in height, on eight fields measuring one hundred by two hundred (100x200) square feet. Eight camps were also seen, a release from the police said.

Four persons arrested, namely:

1. Fayon Reeves, a 25year-old farmer of Circuit Road, Timehri were

2. Kishore Ram, a 35year-old labourer of Cummings Lodge

3. Munesh Ram, a 29year-old labourer of Cummings Lodge

4. Miguel Gomes, a 21year-old painter of Hyde Park, Timehri

Gomes was found in a camp and took the Police to the field where he was planting narcotics. All the narcotics were destroyed along with the camp.

A nursery with a quantity of seedlings which amounted to approximat­ely one thousand plants, was found and destroyed. A quantity of dried cannabis was found in the camps where the other three suspects were arrested.

The cannabis found in the camp with Reeves,

Kishore Ram, and Munesh Ram was weighed and amounted to 1700 grams. The plants amounted to approximat­ely five thousand.

Several plants were uprooted and taken as exhibits. The four suspects were arrested and placed in custody pending charges.
