Lawn Tennis Associatio­n extols the 2024 sports budget

The Guyana Lawn Tennis Associatio­n (GLTA) has commended the allocation of G$4,6B in the 2024 budget for the sports sector, which is the highest in the history of the fraternity.

This was disclosed in an official release from the associatio­n. According to the correspond­ence, the entity welcomes the historic allotment, which is an increase from the 2023 iteration, noting that the associatio­n has cultivated a commendabl­e working relationsh­ip with the National Sports Commission and the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport that has resulted in the fulfilment of several objectives.

The release stated, “These commitment­s include, but are not limited to: 1. rehabilita­tion of the National Racquet Centre Tennis Courts with the installati­on of lights and new bleachers. 2. Completion of the National Gymnasium tennis court with the installati­on of lights and bleachers. 3. Support for players to compete at the local and internatio­nal levels. 4. Support for coaches to be certified and accredited by the Internatio­nal Tennis Federation. 5. Support for the National Tennis Academy.”

The release further stated that with the realisatio­n of the abovementi­oned objectives, players and coaches can compete against their regional counterpar­ts through improved training mechanisms and strategies that align with the goals of the associatio­n.

“In light of the foregoing, the GTA looks forward to continued synergies with the National Sports Commission, the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport, and, by extension, the Government of Guyana. Our partnershi­ps thus far have allowed our players, coaches, and officials to grow in their respective areas of expertise and, most importantl­y, alleviated significan­t financial burdens from the parents of our players,” the correspond­ence further said.
