Adams, Sinclair 4-fers rout Savory’s XI for 97 …on interrupted day-1

- By Michaelangelo Jacobus

The off spin duo of Junior Sinclair and Anthony Adams tore through the batting line-up of Kevlon Anderson’s XI to put Kemol Savory’s XI in the ascendancy on a shortened day one of the second Guyana Harpy Eagles trial match at the MetenMeer-Zorg

Community Ground on the West Coast of Demerara yesterday.

The game began at 1:40 pm due to seepage of water under the covers at the venue overnight, and saw skipper Savory winning the toss and inserting Anderson and his men to bat. The spinner friendly pitch yielded rich rewards for the bowling side who had Anderson’s XI one wicket down without a run on the board in the first over as Sachin Singh was removed by Clinton Pestano, caught behind for a duck. Things did not improve much as Singh’s opening partner Rampertab Ramnauth was run out for 13 with the score at 26.

From 26/2, Brandon Jaikarran and Anderson forged a recovery of sorts to take their side to 69 before the Adams and Sinclair show began. After his 122 in the first trial match, Anderson got another start, 29, before he was bowled by the leftarmer Adams.

Mayhem ensued as Anderson’s side slipped from 69/3 to 97 all out. Sinclair accounted for Akshaya Persaud (1) out caught while Adams dismissed Malcolm Hubbard (7) via the same route to leave the side reeling at 80/5. Sinclair struck for the second time, trapping Zachary Jodah LBW for a duck while Adams had Jaikarran (22) sent back to the pavilion via the same mode of dismissal. Ronaldo Ali Mohamed was the next to go bowled by Adams for a duck while senior statesman Veerasammy Permaul was caught off the bowling of Sinclair for four. The tenth wicket to fall was Nial Smith who was also caught for a duck off the bowling of Sinclair. Richie Looknauth was left not out on 13, and could only watch on as he ran out of partners.

Adams and Sinclair both bowled 11 overs each with the latter claiming 4/26 inclusive of three maidens. Adams returned figures of 4/15 from his 11 overs and also bowled three maidens.

Assuming fair weather holds up, the match will resume today at 9:30 am with Savory’s men keen to build on their advantage.
