Teen girl, two men nabbed in separate ganja busts

Three people, including a teenage girl, were arrested following drug busts by the police.

In one instance ranks from the Grove Police Station, East Bank Demerara, conducted an operation at the home of 42-year-old Lukinovich Theobald called ‘Redman’, at Friendship Squatting Area, East Bank Demerara yesterday at around 12:00 hrs.

A release from the police said they told the suspect that they were in receipt of informatio­n that he had illegal items in his possession, and as such, they would like to carry out a search of his person and premises. A search was then carried out but nothing of evidential value was found.

A further search was carried out at the back of the yard, which is wellfenced, and the ranks found a black plastic bag in a clump of bushes. The bag contained three parcels of suspected marijuana, the release said.

The man was arrested and escorted to Grove Police Station, then to the Narcotics Unit at Regional 4B Headquarte­rs at Diamond , where the suspected marijuana was weighed, and it amounted to 1.95 kg.

Theobald was taken into custody.

Meanwhile, early yesterday morning, police ranks in Division Three, acted on informatio­n received and went to Lot 463 Belle West, Canal

Number Two, West Bank Demerara, where they contacted two individual­s, Serena Wilson, an 18-yearold unemployed woman, and Romaul Armstrong, a 20-year-old constructi­on worker, both of the address mentioned above, the release said.

Nothing was found in the building but a search conducted in a bushy area to the southern side of the premises unearthed a blue barrel with a black cover in the bushes. When opened, it was found to contain several plastic bags with a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis, the release said.

The police escorted the 18-year-old and 20-yearold along with the barrel containing the suspected marijuana to the Leonora Police Station, where the narcotic was weighed and amounted to 1133.4 grammes.
