`I was at the wrong place at the wrong time’
-man charged with possession of cocaine
Thirty-year-old Kasra
Lashley, appeared before
Chief Magistrate Sherdel
Isaacs-Marcus at the
Georgetown Magistrates’
Court where he was charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
It was alleged that on
January 25, at Alexander
Street, Georgetown, he had in his possession five grams of cocaine.
Lashley plead guilty with explanation, telling the court, “I was at the wrong place at the wrong time.”
The prosecution informed that on the day in question, police acting on information conducted a search exercise on a drug block where they encountered Lashley. He was searched and a white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine was found in his pants pocket.
When told of this suspicion, he responded, “Officer I does sell this these things for ‘Kaikoo’”.
The court also heard that Lashley is before another court for trafficking narcotics.
In his explanation the accused revealed that he was an avid narcotic user and admitted that he was at the drug block. However, he disputed the prosecutor’s version of events and opined that the only reason that he was charged was because he was on the drug block.
The prosecutor objected to bail being granted, stating that the detective stands by his account of where the narcotic was found.
Taking into consideration the quantity of narcotic found and the seriousness of the matter, Magistrate Isaacs-Marcus granted bail at the sum of $200,000 with the condition that Lashley report to the Alberttown Police station every Friday until the conclusion of the matter.
The matter was adjourned to February.
