‘Chow Pow’s’ assault trial postponed to April 8
The trial of Kirk ‘Chow Pow’ Jardine, 57, who was facing the court to answer to the charge of assault, was postponed to April 8, 2024, after his attorney, Khemraj Ramrattan, was absent since he was attending the 2024 Budget Debates. The charge against Jardine was brought by his daughter, Aniyah Jardine, 22, in October 2023 last.
During a recent proceedings at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, Magistrate Dylon Bess questioned Aniyah about her intentions regarding her father’s punishment. In response, Aniyah insisted to Magistrate Bess that she sought a punishment fitting the offense. However, there is speculation that both parties might consider utilizing the probation services to resolve the matter, as suggested by Kirk’s former attorney, Paul Fung-a-Fat. In the interim, both Kirk and Aniyah have been placed on a bond to maintain peace.
In the initial trial in October last, Jardine was accused by the prosecution of inflicting several slaps and blows on his daughter. Concerns was also expressed by the prosecution, who was arguing against granting of bail, that the defendant can potentially interfere with or harm the
complainant thus justifying his detention for the preservation of public order. However, Jardine’s attorney, Khemraj Ramjattan, assured the court that his client would dutifully appear as required. He requested that bail be granted at a reasonable sum, noting that his client had already spent three days in police detention without the opportunity to communicate with anyone. Jardine was then placed on $50,000 bail by Magistrate Rhondel Weaver with conditions prohibiting contact with his daughter and maintaining a distance of 100 yards from her.
