Danram hat-trick, 5-fer destroys GNIC to hand MYO big win

-

All-rounder Omesh Danram wreaked havoc on Sunday at the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Ground with his medium-pace bowling, grabbing 5/22 and snaring a hat-trick in the process as the Muslim Youth Organization (MYO) bundled out GNIC for a paltry 62 in 16.1 overs before chasing the total down with 9 wickets to spare to win in dominant fashion.

Playing in the Georgetown Cricket Association’s (GCA) Pepsi-sponsored 1st Division 50overs tournament, GNIC won the toss and elected to bat, an illfated decision.

Danram, who began his spell in just the second over of the GNIC innings, had an inauspicious start, giving away 8-wides in his first two deliveries. However, after the wides hiccup, Danram got into his work, bowling Worrin Green for a duck to leave GNIC 11/1.

Marc Nicholson (8) was the next to go, caught off the bowling of Suresh Dhanai leaving his side 26/2 in the fifth over. While GNIC had no reason to worry at that point, Danram would cripple their middle order in the very next over. The all-rounder, more known for his batting than his bowling, sparked GNIC’s collapse in the third delivery of his over, bowling Shelden Chapman (1), he then trapped David Dick LBW for a duck and completed his hat-trick by dismissing Quacy Richardson in the same manner.

From 26/2, GNIC slumped to 28/5 at the end of the sixth over. Only extras helped GNIC to 62, 29 of their total coming by way of wides, no-balls and byes.

While Danram ended with 5/22 (5 overs), he was supported by Sheldon Alexander who had 3/6 (2.1 overs) while Dhanai took 2/22 (6 overs). The only batsman to pass double figures for GNIC was Stephon Cambel who top scored with 18.

In response, MYO were dismissive of the GNIC bowlers, racing home in just 5.3 overs. Opener Richard Latiff was brutal with his 33 not out from 23 deliveries which included a four and four sixes. The only casualty was Andrew Lyght (13) while Ricardo Ramdehol spanked a brace of sixes to end on 13 not out from 3 deliveries.

For his heroics with the ball, Danram was adjudged man-ofthe-match.
