Thirty-three persons benefit from prosthetic limbs

The Ptolemy Reid Rehabilita­tion Centre and the Ministry of Health’s, Disability and Rehabilita­tion Services held a closing ceremony yesterday for a four-day Prosthetic Capacity Building Workshop during which a total of 33 persons received prosthetic limbs.

A release from the Ministry of Health said that the workshop was a collaborat­ive effort between the J.E Simmons Orthotic and Prosthetic workshop, the Ministry of Health and the ProsthetiK­a Corporatio­n. It was held from February 12th to 16th, 2024. It aimed to equip technical staff with the necessary knowledge and skills in lower limb prosthesis manufactur­ing and rehabilita­tion.

Delivering remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Malcolm Watkins, reiterated the ministry’s commitment to provide equitable healthcare services nationwide.

“We want people across the country to access the same type of services that the government offers in every single community. In the future, we will working

towards financing the rehab services so that we can give you more Prosthetic functional­ity, advanced technology, working with organisati­ons like ProsthetiK­a and others to transfer knowledge,” the

PS said.

Meanwhile, Jon Batzdorff, Founder of the ProsthetiK­a Corporatio­n, expressed gratitude for the training sessions, acknowledg­ing the patience and trust shown by patients.

Among those present were Senior Technician of the J. E Simmons Orthotic and Prosthetic Workshop, Collin Charles; Director of Rehabilita­tion Services, Dr Ariane Mangar and other officials.
