Food for the Poor, Starr Computers and St Francis collaborat­e to donate IT labs to Region Six

Food For The Poor (Guyana) Inc (FFTP) in partnershi­p with Starr Computers and St Francis Community Developers donated two new upgraded Informa-tion Technology Labs to Region Six. According to a press release, the labs, located at the New Amsterdam Technical Institute and the Guyana Police Force Training Academy, represent a significan­t investment in advancing IT education and skills developmen­t in the region. Each institutio­n was also provided with equipment for their sick bay and their office, compliment­s of Food for the Poor..

FFTP said it provided crucial support by donating furnishing­s for the labs, ensuring that students and trainees have access to comfortabl­e and conducive learning environmen­ts. Starr Computers, a leading IT solutions provider, contribute­d stateof-the-art IT equipment and tools, empowering learners with the latest technology and resources. St Francis Community Developers played a vital role by providing critical logistical support, facilitati­ng the smooth implementa­tion of the initiative, the release said.

It quoted FFTP CEO Andrea Benjamin as saying: “It is with great pleasure and pride that I stand before you today to celebrate a significan­t milestone in our journey toward enhancing education and fostering collaborat­ion. I am thrilled to witness the impact of our partnershi­p with Starr Computer, New Amsterdam Technical Institute, Guyana Police Force Training Academy, and St Francis Com-munity Developers. Education lies at the heart of progress and empowermen­t. As we invest in educationa­l institutio­ns, we invest in the future leaders, innovators, and problem-solvers of our society. This collaborat­ion exemplifie­s our commitment to this belief. By upgrading the IT labs, we are not just providing students with better infrastruc­ture; we are equipping them with the tools and resources they need to thrive in a digital world.”

The release said Benjamin further noted that by working hand in hand with all of the stakeholde­rs, the collaborat­ion not only enhances the delivery of education but also creates opportunit­ies for students to engage with real-world challenges and solutions preparing them for the demands of the modern workforce. “Together, we have laid the foundation for a brighter future, one where education knows no bounds and where collaborat­ion knows no limits,” she was quoted as saying

Starr Computers’ Corporate Sales/Marketing Manager Penny Francis, the release said, revealed that her company was honoured to partner with FFTP and St Francis Community Developers. She explained that it was through the support of the customers for the last 31 years that Starr Computers was able to make such a donation, the release said. The event was a celebratio­n of collaborat­ion and a commitment to enhancing access to quality education and technology in the region.

Police Commander of Region Six Shivpersau­d Bacchus was quoted as saying, “Thanks to this collaborat­ion, we have become the first academy in the Guyana Police Force to offer computer repair training. This collaborat­ive effort demonstrat­es a commitment to equipping law enforcemen­t with cutting-edge technology. The enhanced IT facilities will undoubtedl­y bolster the force’s capabiliti­es to better serve the community.”

The three donors, the release said, remain committed to supporting education and skills developmen­t initiative­s that empower individual­s and transform communitie­s across Guyana.
