Santos acquires 23 players as GFF January transfer window finalised

Following the conclusion of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) transfer window, a total of 131 players have moved between the 10 Elite League clubs ahead of the tournament’s start on Sunday, with Santos acquiring 23 players during this period.

This was disclosed in an official release from the Guyana Football Federation (GFF). According to the correspond­ence, Santos acquired the most players during this one-month window, with the quartet of the Guyana Police Force, Western Tigers, Fruta Conquerors, and Anns Grove registerin­g 16 new players each.

Meanwhile, the defending champion, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), improved their roster with the acquisitio­n of 13 players. They are followed by Buxton United, who added 12, while Den Amstel and newcomers Monedderlu­st and Slingerz FC secured seven, seven, and five players, respective­ly.

GFF General Secretary Ian Alves said it has been an “active transfer season, with clubs strategica­lly fortifying their rosters for Season Six. All transfers have been successful­ly completed according to FIFA and GFF rules and regulation­s, setting the stage for what promises to be an exhilarati­ng tournament.”

“A total of 90 games are scheduled for Season Six at grounds in Georgetown, West Coast Demerara, East Bank Demerara, and Berbice. The League stands as the apex of local senior men’s competitio­n, serving as a crucial pathway for players to catch the attention of national team programmes as well as scouts from regional and internatio­nal clubs”, the release stated.

The Elite League will commence on Sunday at the National Training Centre with a doublehead­er. At 18:00hrs, Slingerz will oppose Monedderlu­st, while Santos will lock horns with GDF from 20:30hrs.
