France’s 7-89 highlights draw between MSC, Transport

-

The Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) and Friends 2nd Division two-day league match between the Malteenoes Sports Club and Transport Sports Club at the Transport Ground saw the Thomas Lands-based sides share points in a dull draw.

On Saturday, Transport won the toss and elected to bat, posting 199 all out in 38 overs as a number of batsmen got starts but failed to kick on to bigger innings.

Opener Shiloh Adams got to 45 (50 balls) before he got out in an inning laced with seven fours and a six, while U-15 player Brandon Henry made 26. Myhiem Khan showed some resolve in his fast-paced 39, which came off just 24 deliveries with five fours and two sixes, as did Stephen Alves, who made 28 from 22.

Travin France did the damage for Malteenoes, picking up seven wickets, albeit on the expensive side. He ended with 789 from 17 overs at a run rate of almost six runs per over.

In reply, Malteenoes were 109/2 by stumps on Saturday, with Tuen Hicks on 40 and Collis Rimple on 14. Earlier, opener Judell McAllister had made 48.

Hicks would go on to make 54 when play resumed yesterday, while Rimple got to 43 (44) before he too lost his wicket.

Shaquille Moseley then stepped up for a well-crafted 50 from 56 deliveries, which included six fours. Malteenoes tail failed to wag as they were eventually bowled out for 232 (48.1 overs) with a slender lead of 33.

In response, Transport made their way to 162/6 by stumps yesterday afternoon to have the match drawn. Khan returned with the bat, playing a responsible knock of 53 not out (76 deliveries), which included three fours and two sixes, while Demerara U-15 skipper Emmanuel Lewis made 56 (52 balls, 4sx4, 6sx2).

France returned 2nd inning figures of 2-59, ending a wicket shy of a 10-wicket match haul. He was supported by Miguel Parks (2-33) while Moseley snared 1-13 (4 overs).
