Spankhurst sprints to victory in Jumbo Jet Race Meet

Guyana’s 2023 Horse of the Year, Spankhurst, won the feature event at the Jumbo Jet Racing Thoroughbr­ed Committee ‘Mashramani’ Race Meet at the Rising Sun Turf Club yesterday.

Spankhurst led from the start and relegated East Time to the runner-up position, while Bossalina completed the top three. Finishing in fourth place was stolen money.

Meanwhile, in the NM Trucking Auto Sales G Class and lower 1400-metre event, She WBO on Time emerged victorious while Coup D’état, Regal Intention, and Game Changer finished in second, third, and fourth place, respective­ly.

In the Jumbo Jet Auto Sales K Class race, Black Time prevailed, while She Is A Star, Royal Flight, and Hurricane Lane rounded out the top four in that order.

In race three, Country Rock secured the top spot, with Money Time, Swinging Jet, and Bin Ladin Kushan ending in second, third, and fourth place, respective­ly.

In the L Class and Open to J3 first-time starter’s race, Haley cruised to the win, while El Dorado Queen secured second place. Shake the Bank and Miss Olympic finished third and fourth, respective­ly.

In race five, which was NM Security Classic West Indianbred four-year-old and West Indies three-year-old horses, Firecracke­r exploded to claim the win, while Scandal, Blinding Lights, and Angry Bird finished in second, third, and fourth, respective­ly.

On the other hand, Glories Business won the Handicap E & Lower race, besting Early Bird, Creemore, and Hecho Con Amor in second, third, and fourth, respective­ly.

In the penultimat­e contest, which was the Handicap I Class, J Class, and West Indian-bred three-year-old maiden’s race, Rachel secured the win ahead of Royal Ink, Amazing Grace, and Sex Appeal in that order.

Based on the preliminar­y schedule, the next race meet is pencilled for March 17th at the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club, while the Port Mourant Turf Club will host another race on March 31st.
