Scott’s 171, Bishun’s 6-22 lead Malteenoes to victory over Transport
Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) thrashed Transport by an innings and 118 runs when the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) sanctioned GISE/Trophy Stall/Star Party Rentals 1st Division 2-day League continued yesterday.
Played at their home ground, Malteenoes were sent into bat after Transport won the toss and blasted their way to 353/8 from 69.5 overs before declaring on Saturday afternoon just after tea. The highlight of the Malteenoes innings was Jeremiah Scott’s 171 from just 160 deliveries, while experienced all-rounder Shaquille Williams had a solid knock of 62 (97 balls).
The duo shared a fourth-inning stand of 142 runs to take their side from 30/3 to 172 before Williams lobbed a return catch to Riyad Latif to end his stay at the crease. Another experienced head, Marcus Watkins, then joined Scott but was forced to retire hurt after copping a blow to his face while attempting a sweep shot.
This meant that Scott was joined by Treatlon Liverpool, and together they forged another partnership of substance, adding 77 for the fifth wicket. Liverpool, who made 20, was caught off the bowling of teenager Darwin Larose to leave Malteenoes on 261/5.
By the time Scott fell to LaRose, going for another big hit, he had hit 13 fours and six sixes. Daniel Ross (26) tried to be aggressive but fell shortly after tea, while tailenders Totaram Bishun and Cordell Mars were left unbeaten on 13 and 12, respectively, by the time Malteenoes skipper Nichosie Barker decided it was time to have a bowl.
In response, Transport began their innings unsteadily, losing opener Gabriel Rookhum (3) in the third over to Mars. Wickets continued to fall steadily, and by stumps on Saturday afternoon, Transport were 88/4, with Jadon Campbell and Riyad Latif at the crease, not out on 28 and 5, respectively.
Yesterday morning, when they resumed, Campbell and Latif added a further 61 runs for the fifth wicket before Latif fell for 29 (91 balls), leaving Transport at 149/5 in the 53rd over. Campbell (59) would follow for a hard-earned half century in the very next over off the bowling of Sherry Barrington, who ended with figures of 3-5 (2.3 overs).
From 149/6, Transport would implode as Barrington struck twice more while Marcus Watkins joined in the action to help take the remaining four wickets for just six more
runs as Transport were bowled out for 155 (57.3 overs). With Transport short of the follow-on benchmark, Malteenoes enforced the follow-on and proceeded to wreck the opposition through left arm ‘chinaman’ spinner Totaram Bishun, who ran through the Transport batting order as they were bowled out 80 in just 18 overs.
While opener Rookhum made 15, just two other Transport batsmen managed double figures, with Jeremiah Hohenhirk and Campbell getting to 19 and 12, respectively. With a total of four ducks, by the time last man Kevin Ross retired out, Transport had conspired to concede an innings and 118-run loss. Bishun, who ended with 6-22 from 6.1 overs, had valuable support from Watkins, who snared 2-5 from three overs. For his knock of 171, Scott was adjudged the man of the match.
