This manager’s behaviour is both unprofessional and contrary to established norms

- Dear Editor, Sincerely, (Name and Address Withheld)

As an engineer attached to a Government Agency who frequently collaborates with various departments at the Guyana Power and Light Inc (GPL), I feel compelled to bring to your attention as well as the Management of the Guyana Power & Light matters related to the conduct of the Manager of the Metering Department.

In recent interactions, I observed a consistent pattern of behaviour that is both unprofessional and contrary to the established norms within GPL. The manager in question exhibits rudeness, abrasiveness, and a divisive attitude, treating his department as if it operates independently from the overarching company structure. Notably, this behaviour extends beyond my own interactions, as multiple personnel with whom I’ve interacted with, including his own team, have expressed dissatisfaction with his overall management and attitude.

Editor, I’ve had several interactions with this manager and I can say that none have been pleasant. This manager exhibits a pronounced sense of superiority, possibly stemming from his close ties to the

PPP government as he is not shy to say to anyone that is not willing to put up with his overall behaviour. His demeanor suggests an attitude of being untouchable, while simultaneously projecting an air of in approachability.

Of particular concern is the manager’s disregard for standard procedures and the arbitrary decision-making that adversely affects the efficient functioning of GPL. Additionally, there are serious allegations of verbal abuse, including the use of profanity, and inappropriate comments of a sexual nature directed towards the predominantly female members of his staff who are too afraid to speak out for fear of being victimized.

It is disheartening to note that such behaviour not only compromises the work environment but also erodes the respect and cohesion necessary for the effective functioning of GPL and its relationship to its customers. I implore the management to thoroughly investigate these allegations and take appropriate actions to address the concerns raised in this letter.
