Region Two farmers receive tools, livestock

Region Two farmers on Friday received agricultur­al tools and livestock in fulfilment of a commitment made by Minister of Agricultur­e Zulfikar Mustapha some time ago.

A Department of Public Informatio­n (DPI) press release said some of the items distribute­d were water pumps and sprinklers, knapsack sprayers, tillers, shade house materials, mist blowers, pigs, breeding bulls, sheep, and black giant chickens.

The distributi­on of the agricultur­al inputs, the release said, forms part of a commitment made by Mustapha, during several recent engagement­s with farmers along the Essequibo Coast. During those meetings, various issues were highlighte­d and the farmers were enlightene­d about the interventi­ons they would benefit from as a result of this year’s trillion-dollar budget, it added.

Director General of the ministry Madanlall Ramraj, who facilitate­d the handing over of the inputs on Friday, was accompanie­d by the vice chairman of Region Two and staff of the ministry.

Farmers expressed gratitude to the government for the distributi­on of the farming supplies and continued support, aimed at transformi­ng the overall landscape of the region, the release said.

Additional­ly, Mustapha has promised to provide a tractor to cash crop farmers to prepare their land on the Essequibo Coast, which has already been procured. The delivery is slated to take place in two weeks, the release said.

According to the press release, the farmers will also soon benefit from a portion of the 7,000 Brazilian Green Dwarf coconut trees to expand their production capacity. Mustapha will also inaugurate the Basic Needs Trust Fund edifice for

agro processing.
