Nikesha Sutton, a 24-year-old housewife of Parika Backdam, East Bank Essequibo, was murdered on Monday afternoon allegedly by her reputed husband.
The suspect is yet to be arrested.
Police say they are investigating the murder which occurred at about 5 pm on Monday at Parika. Sutton had been in a seven-year relationship with the 24-yearold man.
Investigations revealed that at about 3 pm, the suspect arrived home under the influence of alcohol and a heated argument ensued with his wife resulting in the man leaving the home. At about 5 pm, the suspect returned home with two alcoholic beverages in his hand and another heated argument erupted between the couple which resulted in a scuffle.
Sutton’s sister intervened to stop the scuffle and thereafter, the suspect told Nikesha to pack her things and move out of the home. Sutton then placed some clothes in a bucket and was making her way through a track to her sister’s house nearby, when the suspect allegedly picked up one of the beer bottles, broke it and stabbed her once to the neck. He then fled the scene.
Samantha Sutton, Nikesha’s sister, told Stabroek News that she visited Nikesha on Monday and was present when her husband, Rovin LaRose, returned home under the influence of alcohol. Samantha recounted that an argument ensued and Nikesha sent La Rose to buy water. He returned approximately one hour later and the argument continued. Samantha said she left the couple’s home and headed to her house.
At about five minutes after, Samantha said that LaRose ran to her and told her that he had killed Nikesha. She added that as he approached her, she got scared because he was covered in blood.
According to Samantha, LaRose attempted to harm her and she ran back towards the couple’s home since it was not far away. As she ran towards the house, LaRose escaped. Upon arrival at the house, Nikesha was seen holding her one year-old son and lying in a pool of blood with her throat slashed.
Nikesha, a mother of four, endured abuse during the seven years, her sister said. Samantha related that in January, LaRose physically abused Nikesha and ordered her to leave the house along with the children. Nikesha and her children were subsequently accommodated at Samantha’s house, but she returned home two days later. Although she kept advising sister to end the abusive relationship, LaRose would apologize for his actions, and as a result, she would return home. The mother of four believed that her children should be raised with their father, and as a result, she endured the abuse which was never reported to the police, the sister said.

Nickesha’s body is currently at the Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting a postmortem examination.
