Guyana crushes Windwards to remain perfect

Guyana continued their unbeaten run in the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Women’s Super50 Championsh­ip, defeating Windward Islands by 44 runs yesterday at Warner Park in Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis.

Batting first, Guyana ended on 207/8 in their allotted overs. Shabika Gajnabi top scored with 61, while experience­d skipper Shemaine Campbelle, who was pivotal in two eventual runouts, was the next best scorer with 42. Adding 29, and 21 runs apiece were Ashmini Munisar and Realeanna Grimmond, respective­ly. CN Noel was the pick of the bowlers with a 347.

In reply, the Windward Islands were bundled out for 163 in 40.2 overs. NK Crafton top scored with 47 before being bowled by Munisar, while ZA James contribute­d 21 runs.

The trio of Plaffiana Millington, Munisar, and Niya Latchman combined for six wickets. Millington snared 2-23, while Munisar recorded 2-31 and Latchman tallied 238. Meanwhile, Jamaica defeated the Leeward Islands by nine wickets at the Conaree Cricket Centre. Batting first, the Leeward Islands were dismissed for 98 in 35.1 overs. Reniece Boyce top scored with 37 runs, as Vanessa Watts and Stefanie Taylor recorded 3-15 and 316, respective­ly.

In response, the Jamaicans stormed to 99/1. Chedean Nation smashed 14 fours for her unbeaten 61 in a mere 29 balls to lead the successful pursuit. Contributi­ng an undefeated 29 was Rashada Williams.

On the other hand, defending champion Barbados defeated Trinidad and Tobago by eight runs.

Batting first, the Barbadians were dismissed for 185 in 48.4 overs, with Kycia Knight anchoring the innings with 90 from 134 deliveries.

In reply, Trinidad and Tobago fell short at 178/8 as their allotted overs expired. Britney Cooper and Samara Ramnath scored with 34 and 32 runs apiece.
