Campbelle’s 50, Munisar 5-fer lead Guyanese women to 61-run win over T&T Divas

-

Guyana’s skipper Shemaine Campbelle stroked another fifty as her run of good form continues while spinner Ashmini Munisar grabbed 5/15 as the Guyanese women beat Trinidad and Tobago Divas by 61 runs in their fourth round Cricket West Indies (CWI) CG Insurance Women’s Super50 Cup encounter yesterday at the Conaree Cricket Ground in St Kitts and Nevis.

In yet another low-scoring encounter, the trend of the tournament thus far, the Divas won the toss and sent in the Guyanese to bat, a decision seemingly justified as they found early success, with openers Realeanna Grimmond and Mandy Mangru both losing their wickets for identical scores of 10. Despite the early loss of wickets, skipper Campbelle who scored her second consecutive half-century, 52 from 83 deliveries inclusive of four boundaries, combined with the reliable Shabika Gajnabi who made a steady 33 (58 balls, 4sx1) to steady the ship. However, after Gajnabi’s and Campbelle’s departure, the rest of the Guyanese batters offered very little

with only Munisar reaching double digits with 11. At the end of the allotted 50 overs, Guyana had limped to 156/8 with Cyanna Retemiah and Niya Latchman unbeaten on 7 and 2 respectively.

For the Divas bowling attack, Karishma Ramharack led the way with 3/26 (10 overs) while

veteran Lee-Ann Kirby chipped in with 2-24 (10 overs).

In chase of a gettable target, the Trinidadians imploded spectacularly as Munisar ran through their line-up with the assistance of two runouts and Latchman who snared 2/24 (8 overs) while Gajnabi took 1/17 (6 overs).
