`Wrang and strang’

- Sincerely, M. Singh

Dear Editor,

Complaints by the tiny party ANUG that Dr. Kissoon is refusing to step down from the parliamentary seat she occupies in overtime is so disappointing.

The good doctor should know that credibility is shot when such unacceptable, selfish behaviour is practiced. Does this lady think anyone would trust her ever again if she continues in politics? Who would vote for someone like that? When you offer yourself up to be a political leader to replace current parties, you have to be the change you want to see. You are in the public eye as a role model. You cannot contribute to the poisoned chalice that our politics has become.

Squatting in office when it’s time to step down and give the other party a chance to serve as per a signed agreement, is no different than the PNC+AFC refusing to step down when the whole world knows it lost the election but was attempting to rig to stay “pon top” a la what “Elder” recommends. Such behaviour of refusing to step down although her party won the least amount of votes in that “joinder” group, is what the village people would call “wrang and strang.”

The doctor should tell whether someone has put her up to it, or whether she thought of that all by herself. The other two parties acted honourably and trustingly but here we have someone disgracing herself as we observe International Women’s Day. It’s better for the Doc to save face and immediately step down now than to be removed by the List Representative. That stain on her reputation will be no good. How will her work colleagues, her patients, and the public trust her again? So, the good Doc must look deep inside herself and do the right thing. Be a promise keeper. Maybe, also explain why you did it. Silence does not provide an excuse.
