Windsor Forest, Cornelia Ida secure semi-final berths

Windsor Forest and Cornelia Ida recorded lopsided wins in the quarterfin­al segment when the ‘Jits and Neelam’ 40-Over Cricket Championsh­ip continued on Sunday evening.

At the Canal Sports Club ground, Windsor Forest defeated the hosts by 102 runs. Batting first, Windsor Forest recorded 179/9 in a reduced 30over contest. Chaitram Nauth top scored with 30 runs, while Sachin Balgobin, Killon Tracy, and Avinash Ganesh supported with 28, 24, and 24 runs, respective­ly.

Narendra Persaud was the pick of the bowlers with 3-39, while Joshua Rahaman and Vishwanaut­h Jadunauth tallied 2-25 and 2-34, respective­ly.

In reply, the home side was bundled out for 77 in 16 overs. Jadunauth scored the most with 16, while Duane Graham and Navindra Ramnauth were the only scorers to reach double figures with scores of 13 and 10, respective­ly. Lalta Suknanan and Kishaun Tracy engineered the batting collapse with figures of 3-17 and 3-18, respective­ly, while Nauth added 2-18.

At the West Meten-MeerZorg Community Ground, Cornelia Ida defeated the Windsor Forest Vipers by six wickets.

Batting first, the Vipers were dismissed for 179 in 25.4 overs in a reduced 30-over fixture. Yuidishir Parbudeen scored the most with 46 runs, while Hemchand Bisnauth and Dhaniram Azamudeen contribute­d 27 and 21 runs, respective­ly. Shafeek Deonarine tallied 4-23 with the ball, while Ushadeva Balgobin tallied 3-30 and Akib Mullin snared 2-57.

In response, Cornelia Ida ended on 183/4 in 24.4 overs. Shafeek Deonarine led the way with an unbeaten 45, while Mahendra Dhanpaul finished with an undefeated 34. Contributi­ng 34 and 25 apiece were Balgobin and Shaaid Vieira. Bowling for the loser, Faoud Bacchus recorded 4-36.

Meanwhile, the contest between McGill Superstars and hosts Shamrock at the Zeelugt Ground was cancelled due to a wet playing surface. The tournament continues on Sunday.
