Guyana dismantles Cambodia 4-1 in the FIFA Series

Guyana ended their inaugural campaign in the FIFA Series with a resounding thrashing of lowly Cambodia, winning by a 4-1 score-line in their international friendly yesterday at the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Guyana’s starting XI comprised Quillan Roberts, Liam Gordon, Jeremy Garrett, Jalen Jones, Curtez Kellman, Leo Lovell, Stephen DukeMcKenna, Elliot Bonds, Nathan Ferguson, Kadell Daniels, and Omari Glasgow.
Fresh off winning the CONCACAF Nations League Top Scorer and Best Young Player accolades, Glasgow led the rout with a double, increasing his personal tally to 16 conversions in 22 outings for the programme and, in the process, moving two goals short of equaling Nigel Codington’s record.
Glasgow opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a header from inside the right of the sixyard area after latching onto a Kadell Daniels cross from the left side. It proved to be the only conversion of the first half.
Although Cambodia was able to equalise in the 53rd minute through Sieng Chanthea, three unanswered goals sealed the eventual outcome. Glasgow restored Guyana’s initial advantage with a 59th-minute penalty conversion into the lower right corner after Jalen Jones was fouled inside the area.
Lovell then made it 3-1 in the 81st minute with a placed shot into the left corner from the right side of the penalty area after an initial Deon Moore strike from the left side of the penalty area was parried into his onrushing path.
The outcome was sealed in the 90th+1 minute, as Ryan Khedoo scored, volleying into the left corner after controlling a lobbed cross from the right inside the centre of the penalty area. Guyana, in their opening fixture, lost 0-1 to Cape Verde.
