QC captures Girl’s U-15 Georgetown North Zone football title

-

Queen’s College (QC) was crowned the north zone champion of the Georgetown division in the Blue Waters Girl’s U-15 Football Championship on Saturday at the National Training Centre, Providence.

The QC unit romped to the title following a perfect 2-0 record in their final two encounters. In their first fixture, QC crushed North Georgetown 3-0. They then made light work of St. John’s College by the identical aforesaid score in their second fixture.

In their earlier round of matches at the QC ground, Thomas Lands, on May 4th, the home side ended with a perfect 3-0 record. The QC outfit defeated New Campbellville 5-0 in their first match before edging Chase Academy 1-0. In their final fixture, the hosts dismantled the Institute of Academic Excellence (IAE) 5-0.

With the win, QC advances to the round of 16 segment in the national championship.

Head coach Trevon ‘German’ Lythcott, during a post-match comment, said, “I think the team played well despite some of the challenges in getting the girls out for the game. We know at QC that it’s somewhat challenging because the parents think that football is a rough sport, and getting them out is hard because they are somewhat scared to play. After we played the first game, that fear went away. I told them we were using this tournament to have fun. I did give them the confidence and belief that we could win, but we wanted them mostly to have fun.”
