EL BAILE DE LOS DIABLITOS

El martirio de San Sebastián o Baile de los Diablitos está considerada la obra de teatro más antigua de Honduras, ya que lleva puesta en escena 370 años, después de su primera presentación en 1644. Generalmente se realiza en los atrios de varias iglesias durante la segunda semana de febrero, y aún conserva su esencia original traída por el sacerdote Mercedario con el fin de evangelizar. Posteriormente se le agrego a la representación el Baile de los Diablitos de origen Indígena Lenca gracias al entusiasmo del comité Cultural de la ciudad y a organismos internacionales.

The martyrdom of San Sebastián or “baile de los diablitos” is considered the oldest play in Honduras, since it has been staged for 373 years, after its first presentation in 1644. It is usually performed in the atriums of several churches during the second week of February, and still retains its original

essence brought by the priest Mercedario in order to evangelize. Subsequently, the “Dance of the Devils” with Lenca origin was added to the performance thanks to the enthusiasm of the Cultural Committee of the city and international organizations.
