THE RENOWNED JEWELLER

Van Cleef & Arpels launched L’École, School of Jewelry Arts in Paris in 2012. This month, Van Cleef & Arpels is bringing its gemstones and specialist tools from its Place Vendôme headquarters to Hong Kong. The jeweller’s goal is to open up the secretive world of jewellery by sharing its knowledge of jewellery making and passion for the fascinating world of High Jewelry. L’École will welcome enthusiasts and connoisseurs in Hong Kong, Asia’s design and artistic hub. It presents a unique opportunity to explore the gems, the High Jewellery techniques and the importance of creativity in jewellery design.

Over its two-week residency in Hong Kong, L’École, School of Jewelry Arts offers 10 courses in the art history of jewellery, the universe of gemstones and the savoir-faire of jewellery making. There is an opportunity to learn from the maison’s team of experts – led by President Marie Vallanet Delhom who has over 30 years of experience working with High Jewellery – about the origins and evolution of jewellery making. Visitors can explore the major aesthetic influences and symbols in jewellery design, and join special classes on topics that range from why the diamond is the source of such fascination to in-depth explorations into the history of art nouveau jewellery.

Also on the programme are opportunities under expert guidance to try Japanese lacquer work, to get hands-on experience painting detailed gouache jewel designs, and to learn some of the craft techniques used at the jeweller’s bench. Additionally, there are engaging creative workshops for children and teenagers; and evening conversations with the experts on topics including Asia-Pacific Pearls and Treasures and Legends, an insightful sharing session by Vincent Meylan that delves into the clients and exceptional stones entrusted into the ‘golden hands’ of Van Cleef & Arpels. L’École, School of Jewelry Arts is an original and innovative opportunity to uncover the mysteries of the sparkling universe of jewels.

L’Ecole, School of Jewelry Arts, supported by Van Cleef & Arpels will be in Hong Kong from 16 September to 1 October at The Qube, PMQ. Each course is limited to a maximum of 12 students and lasts between two to four hours.
