Ningbo, a major manufacturing city in Zhejiang province, is looking to attract more international talents. The city will promote high-tech exchange and support emerging industry development during the Ningbo Talents, Science and Technology Week.

This year’s Ningbo Talents, Science and Technology Week, which lasts from Saturday to Wednesday, will hold 20 activities to provide information, platform and services.

There will be high-caliber talent recruitment fairs, matchmaking events for overseas returnees, competitions for skilled workers and several forums during the five-day event.

The event will promote Zhejiang’s smart manufacturing industry development and support Ningbo’s bid to develop around the “Made in China 2025” strategy, according to the city government.

The central government approved Ningbo as the first pilot city for implementing the “Made in China 2025” strategy in August this year.

Zhang Liangcai, deputy director of the Ningbo Human Resources Department, said more than 20,000 talents and 3,000 companies will attend this year’s expo.

On Saturday, over 810 companies will be looking to fill more than 7,000 job vacancies with students from some 150 key universities in the Yangtze River Delta region and its surrounding areas during the recruitment fair. More than 10,000 university students who will graduate in 2017 are expected to participate, according to the event organizers.

Another recruitment fair, only open to 500 specially-invited prospective employees, will be held. More than 600 job opportunities with an annual salary of more than 150,000 yuan ($22,478) will be provided.

This year’s event is also intended to promote exchange of high-technology. More than 450 high-tech projects that cover a broad range of areas such as high-end medical and recovery facilities will be demonstrated in the matchmaking events.

The China Global Enterprise Forum will be another highlight of this year’s event. Experts at the forum will give advice on how Chinese multinational companies can achieve better results in changing global economic situations. More than 500 government officials, experts, business leaders and management members of multinational companies will attend this forum.

The annual Ningbo Talents Shortage List was released on Friday to provide talents with more knowledge about Ningbo’s job market. This year, talents in finance services, smart home appliance development and cultural industries are in high demand in Ningbo.

Demand for experts in 14 industries including information technology, e-commerce, general aviation, new energy and new materials is high.

First held in 2006, the annual Ningbo Talents, Science and Technology Week plays a crucial role in supporting Ningbo’s talent-attraction strategy.

More than 310,000 professionals and talents from over 30 countries and regions have taken part.

From 2006 to 2015, more than 24,000 high-end professionals were recruited, 200 research branches and offices were set up and 220 cooperative agreements worth 11.4 billion yuan were signed at the events.

“The event has grown into a comprehensive talent attraction and support platform with strong influence,” Zhang said.
