Jinjialing zone becomes hub for businesses

- By ZHUANTI zhuanti@chinadaily.com.cn

Several years ago, if you asked a Qingdao local to name an area resembling Wall Street in their city, they would mention Hong Kong Middle Road or Maidao Road, areas with many banking outlets, financial companies, well-dressed professional investors and banking clerks.

But today, their answer would be Jinjialing, although the former places still play their roles in Qingdao’s financial industry.

At present, the Jinjialing Financial Zone has become a major base for Qingdao’s financial businesses.

In the area, there are a number of high-rise office buildings, including the SII Center Plaza and CITS Financial Business Center, housing the headquarters, regional headquarters and operations of many financial institutions.

Other commercial properties such as Liqun Fortune Plaza and Yinshengtai International Trade Building are also under construction.

With upgraded infrastructure, traffic systems and commercial facilities, Jinjialing has gathered a great number of banking, securities, insurance, third-party payment companies and other financial businesses.

In the future, the area is expected to play as major a role as Shanghai’s Lujiazui district in the domestic wealth management sector, according to the Qingdao Financial Affairs Office.

In order to attract more companies from home and abroad, the local government has further invested in office buildings and related facilities. These include the 3.2-billionyuan ($475 million) Conson Business Center, a complex for office and exhibition facilities invested in by the local government-funded Conson Asia Financial Holdings.

Moreover, the Qingdao city government has also made efforts to upgrade the traffic system, with roads and subways connecting Jinjialing with the airport, the cruise ship harbor and the rest of Qingdao.

Song Zhengmin, deputy general manager of Qingdao International Airport Group, said that Qingdao Liuting International Airport will soon open flights to San Francisco, Melbourne and Dubai, increasing Qingdao’s intercontinental air routes to 20 in 2020.

He added that these routes will further facilitate Jinjialing’s, as well as Qingdao’s, business connections with the world.
