Corruption around ordinary people

-

According to a communique released after the seventh plenary session of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China on Friday and Saturday, the Party’s top anti-graft body will seriously deal with any corruption and unhealthy tendencies around ordinary people.

Anti-corruption and discipline inspection responsibility will be gradually extended to the grassroots Party committees and antigraft authorities, to fight against any formalism, bureaucratism, hedonism and extravagance around ordinary people and tackle corruption in the poverty alleviation field.

From January to November last year, the anti-graft authority has dealt with 70,369 cases that violated people’s interests nationwide. Among these corruption cases, 13,285 of them involved corruption in the poverty alleviation field, and 16,487 corrupt individuals have been dealt with according to relevant laws and regulations.

The recent anti-corruption work has won wide public recognition. According to a public survey, in 2016 about 92.9 percent of the respondents were satisfied with the work of the Party and the Party’s anti-corruption efforts.

Curbing the corruption around ordinary people is conducive to enhancing the public’s sense of gain, because people are sensitive to “micro corruption”, the corrupt behavior of the officials around them.

The top anti-graft authority pledged to maintain a tough stance on corruption in 2017 and further comprehensively and strictly govern the Party.
