What they say

I got the news about Xiongan New Area from my father. He told me that we will move into high-rise buildings in no more than 10 years. I am excited about that. I have never left Xiongan and have only seen skyscrapers on TV. I am looking forward to life in a high-rise. My hometown will certainly be very beautiful in the future. It will be covered by forests and boast skyscrapers. Jing Youshui, 14, from Zhangzhuang Primary School in Xiongxian county I heard that the new area will be developed into a worldclass city modeled on Shenzhen. I think I can still live for at least another decade. All Chinese hope their country will become better and better. I am happy to see the prosperity here. I believe people of my generation will be able to lead high-quality lives here in the new area. Wei Wenqi, 75, from Zhongliu village in Anxin county News about the new area spread quickly on WeChat. We are all very happy about it. I have had held three parties to celebrate it with my friends. There are more than 500 households in my village, and at least 40 percent are related to the plastics industry, which is a source of pollution. I also run a small workshop to make plastic products. Though I could make more than 100,000 yuan ($14,500) a year, I hope my children will not continue the industrial pollution. Li Deming, 44, owner of a workshop for plastic products in Zhangzhuang village, Xiongxian county Some of my classmates who haven’t been in touch with me for some time called to offer congratulations. Some of them said we will lead lives like those of people in the capital. I told them we are not from the capital, but from Xiongan, and our life will better than that of people from the capital. There will be high-quality medical services and schools; seniors will get good pensions to enjoy their later years; and homes will be affordable for all. Liu Dongchen, 52, a wetland protection official in Anxin county
