Driver jumps in river to escape check

A motorcycli­st in Haimen who evaded police for two hours by jumping into a river in an attempt to dilute his blood-alcohol level was punished with a stay in a detention house. The man, surnamed Hua, was stopped at about 1 pm on Aug 5 after officers noticed him driving erraticall­y. He refused to provide a sample for testing, ran away from the police and jumped into a nearby river that he drank from extensivel­y. Once back ashore, Hua just barely passed a blood-alcohol level test and was charged with obstructio­n of justice.
