East Asian Economic Community

-

Premier Li Keqiang advanced building an East Asian Economic Community in order to promote regional integration and common development at the 20th Association of Southeast Asian Nations, China, Japan and Republic of Korea (10+3) leaders’ meeting in the Philippines on Tuesday.

This year marks the 20 anniversary of the 10+3 cooperation meeting. Over the past two decades the 10+3 cooperation mechanism has continuously improved and the cooperation field gradually expanded. It has become one of the most important cooperation mechanisms in Asia, as well as the main channel for building an East Asian community and promoting cooperation in East Asia.

Li said it is a strategic goal of 10+3 cooperation to build such a community. It also meets the long-term and fundamental interests of the region’s people, he said.

Li gave six suggestions to achieve that goal including highly promoting liberalization and facilitation of trade, expanding production capacity and investment cooperation, enhancing cooperation in infrastructure construction, deepening economic cooperation to maintain regional financial stability, strengthening sustainable development and increasing cultural exchanges.

He also appealed to all the parties involved to jointly promote the construction of East Asian economic community to begin another brilliant 20 years of 10+3 cooperation.
