Society: English new-media platform upgraded in Wuxi
An enhanced English language newmedia platform for Wuxi in Jiangsu province was launched on Wednesday, with a goal of promoting the city’s brand to an international audience. The Charming Wuxi English New Media Platform, which consists of the city’s official English website, is the result of strengthened cooperation between China Daily and the Wuxi Publicity Department. Since the site’s launch in 2014, more than 2,000 stories have been published, along with 1,200 photos, 25 videos and 19 special reports, attracting 3 million page views, averaging about 3,200 per day.

The Three Body trilogy, a popular Chinese science fiction novel, has been published in more than 10 languages. The three-part saga depicts the human race’s contact and conflict with an alien civilization. Its finale, Dead End, was released in 2010. The trilogy has sold more than 7 million copies in Chinese and has been translated into more than 10 languages including English, Spanish and German, according to China Educational Publications Import and Export Corp. In 2015, the trilogy won the Hugo Award for Best Novel, generally considered the highest honor for sci-fi works.
Ranking: Top 10 most-visited cities in the world revealed
Hong Kong has become the most-visited city in the world, attracting 26.6 million visitors this year, according to a report released by global market consultancy Euromonitor International. Every year, Euromonitor releases its Top City Destinations Ranking, a report that ranks 100 of the world’s leading cities in terms of tourist arrivals. This year, Asian cities dominated the list, taking four out of the top five spots. The ranking is based on international tourist arrivals that stay in the country for at least 24 hours but less than 12 months.
Travel: Naadams of Ice and Snow in Inner Mongolia
Naadams, or festivals, of ice and snow featuring winter sports, kicked off on Saturday in Hohhot and Hulunbuir in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region. Organizers will host horse races, ice hockey, skiing, snow motorbike races and other events in the coming two months. The maiden Naadam of Ice and Snow in Hohhot features camel riding on snow,
bokh or Mongolian wrestling, and archery training and competitions. The local ethnic groups are expected to showcase their nomadic culture through a variety of activities, performances and costumes.
Art: Most expensive Chinese artworks sold in 2017
This year saw more than 20 Chinese artworks fetching over 100 million yuan ($15.3 million) at auctions. The bulk of them were ink-brush paintings produced by 20th-century artists, a category to which collectors feel more attached compared with antique and classic paintings. Imperial porcelain and works of ancient masters were the most soughtafter, as a large number are housed in public museums.
