Legislators approve regional appointments
Zhang Guoqing, the former mayor of Chongqing, was appointed acting mayor of Tianjin on Tuesday, two days after transferring to the city to become its deputy Party chief.
The port city is one of the country’s four municipalities — along with Beijing, Shanghai and Chongqing — and has the same status as a province. The appointment was confirmed by the Standing Committee of the Tianjin People’s Congress.
Zhang worked for 26 years in the weapons industry after graduating from a university in Nanjing, Jiangsu province.
The 54-year-old served as general manager of China North Industries Group Corp, commonly known as Norinco, the largest manufacturer of land armaments in China, before being named deputy Party chief of Chongqing in 2013.
He became mayor in 2017. The previous Tianjin mayor, Huang Xingguo, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for accepting bribes in September.
Yan Qingmin, former vice-mayor of Tianjin, has been named vicechairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission.
Chongqing’s local legislature also appointed Tang Liangzhi as the southwestern city’s acting mayor on Tuesday. Born in 1960, he held various posts in Shanghai, and Sichuan and Hubei provinces before becoming deputy Party chief in early 2017.
Meanwhile, Jilin province has appointed Jing Junhai as acting governor. The move comes after the local legislature approved the resignation of Jing’s predecessor, Liu Guozhong.
Jing, 57, is a native of Baishui, Shaanxi province. Before becoming a government official in 1992, he was a teacher at Xidian University in Xi’an.
He held various posts in Xi’an before being transferred to Beijing to become deputy head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee. In April, Jing was named Beijing’s deputy Party chief.
Tang Dengjie was appointed acting governor of Fujian province at a session of the standing committee of the provincial legislature on Tuesday. The legislature also accepted the resignation of former governor Yu Weiguo.
Born in 1964 in Jiangsu, Tang has served as vice-minister of industry and information technology since May. He held various posts in Shanghai from 1986 to 2011 before he was promoted to president of China South Industries Group Corp.
