Standing Committee to look at revisions of Constituti­on

The 12th National People’s Congress Standing Committee, the country’s top legislatur­e, will convene on Monday and Tuesday in Beijing to discuss revisions of the Constituti­on. Legislator­s will discuss a proposal by the Communist Party of China Central Committee to revise the Constituti­on, review the draft of the revision and consider a motion to hold the first session of the 13th NPC. The session will also review a number of official appointmen­ts and dismissals.

Profit figures for industrial enterprise­s to be released

The National Bureau of Statistics is expected to release the December profit figures for major industrial enterprise­s on Friday. China’s manufactur­ing industry has maintained its rising growth momentum. In the first 11 months, the total profits of industrial manufactur­ers above the designated size surged 21.9 percent year-on-year to 6.88 trillion yuan ($1.07 trillion), the bureau said.

Beijing meeting to highlight environmen­tal safeguards

A roundtable meeting of the World Economic and Environmen­t Conference will be held in Beijing on Friday to highlight the importance of environmen­tal protection during developmen­t. Officials and scholars from home and abroad will attend the event. Launched in 2008, the conference provides a platform to strength cooperatio­n and promote sustainabl­e developmen­t between China and the world.
