Standing Committee to look at revisions of Constitution
The 12th National People’s Congress Standing Committee, the country’s top legislature, will convene on Monday and Tuesday in Beijing to discuss revisions of the Constitution. Legislators will discuss a proposal by the Communist Party of China Central Committee to revise the Constitution, review the draft of the revision and consider a motion to hold the first session of the 13th NPC. The session will also review a number of official appointments and dismissals.
Profit figures for industrial enterprises to be released
The National Bureau of Statistics is expected to release the December profit figures for major industrial enterprises on Friday. China’s manufacturing industry has maintained its rising growth momentum. In the first 11 months, the total profits of industrial manufacturers above the designated size surged 21.9 percent year-on-year to 6.88 trillion yuan ($1.07 trillion), the bureau said.
Beijing meeting to highlight environmental safeguards
A roundtable meeting of the World Economic and Environment Conference will be held in Beijing on Friday to highlight the importance of environmental protection during development. Officials and scholars from home and abroad will attend the event. Launched in 2008, the conference provides a platform to strength cooperation and promote sustainable development between China and the world.
