Ranking: Top 10 companies granted most patents

The number of patents filed rose to 1.38 million in China in 2017, up 14.2 percent from the previous year, and 420,000 were accepted, according to the State Intellectu­al Property Office. Society: Workers ready to receive year-end bonuses

Whitecolla­r workers in China are set to pocket year-end bonuses, estimated to average at 7,278 yuan ($1,139), according to a survey from the online recruitmen­t platform Zhaopin.com. About 66 percent of white-collar workers surveyed by the platform said they will receive a year-end bonus, marking a sharp rise from less than 40 percent in 2016, the report said. Workers in Shanghai overtook those in Beijing for the largest bonuses. They earned 11,913 yuan on average. Though 84.5 percent of employees said they receive cash as a bonus, some companies also hand out unexpected gifts.

The number of overseas tourists to Hainan province exceeded 1.1 million in 2017, up nearly 50 percent year-on-year. The island, which is aiming to become a world-class tourist destinatio­n, attained the goal of annually receiving 1 million overseas tourists three years in advance, according to the provincial tourism developmen­t commission. Hainan has 56 internatio­nal air routes and another 44 will be opened by 2020. A threeyear plan will be rolled out this year to make the island a top global destinatio­n, including preferenti­al policies such as visa-free services and ticket promotions.
