PepsiCo, women’s foundation help alleviate poverty in Yunnan
Food and beverage retailer PepsiCo China and the China Women’s Development Foundation jointly launched their 2018 “Bring Happiness Home Postal Parcel for Mothers” charity campaign on Feb 8 to help poverty-stricken mothers in Dongchuan district, Kunming, Yunnan province.
PepsiCo has been involved in the program for seven consecutive years, with donations exceeding 4 million yuan ($632,000), benefiting more than 30,000 poor mothers and their families in 12 provinces and cities.
Yunnan is one of the major battlegrounds for fighting poverty in the country. PepsiCo senior executives and CWDF officials delivered parcels, containing various daily necessities and warm clothing, to the poor mothers, chatted with them and got to know about their living conditions.
Zhu Baoming, director of CWDF, said, “As a long-standing strategic partner of CWDF, PepsiCo has been actively supporting such charity projects, becoming a role model for multinational companies by giving back to communities and being a responsible corporate citizen.”
Yao Weiwei, senior vicepresident and general manager of beverages of PepsiCo China, added: “For many years, PepsiCo has been actively engaging in giving back to our communities. The theme of PepsiCo’s 2018 campaign is to encourage people to build bridges of communication and understanding among family members so that we can enjoy happiness of ‘reciprocal understanding’. We hope to bring understanding and communication also to the mothers in poor areas, so that everybody will have a happy and warm Chinese New Year.”
The postal parcel for mothers is a major charity program initiated by CWDF in 2012 and was the winner of the eighth China Charity Award, the highest charity award by the Chinese government.
In 2018, PepsiCo will continue to spread the spirit of “Bring Happiness Home” by inviting consumers to share and bring happiness to others. In the future, PepsiCo will continue to create happiness and share fun moments with young people, while at the same time fulfill its commitments of “In China, For China, With China” and encourage young people to support and contribute to charity programs together with PepsiCo.
The Postal Parcels for Mothers program has been implemented since 2012, with total donations of more than 100 million yuan. The program has offered more than 710,000 parcels to mothers and families in poverty in 31 provinces, improving the living conditions of women and their families. Women living in remote areas whose annual incomes are less than 2,300 yuan are major recipients.
