China is ready to work with India to maintain the good momentum of the bilateral relationship, President Xi Jinping said in a phone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday.

China-India relations have recently shown a positive momentum, as pragmatic cooperation is deepening and grassrootslevel friendly exchanges have become increasingly proactive, Xi said.

Xi said he would like to strengthen communication with Modi on overall, longterm and strategic issues between the two countries, as well as the international and regional situation.

By doing so, they will enhance bilateral political mutual trust, provide important guidance for the development of bilateral relations and promote the level of their ties, according to Xi.

Both countries are major developing countries and major emerging markets, and they both are the backbone supporting the buildup of a multipolar world and economic globalization, Xi said.

Modi said India is willing to have closer high-level exchanges with China, deepen bilateral relations, strengthen coordination and cooperation in international affairs and promote peace and development in the region and in the world.

Modi congratulated Xi on his re-election as president and said Xi’s success in re-election testifies to the support of the Chinese people.

Xi expressed his appreciation and said China’s annual two sessions, which just concluded, were highly successful.

China will further deepen its reforms, boost its opening-up, and make greater contributions to the common development and progress of the world while realizing its own development, Xi said.
