Young mother faces trial in infant death 15-year search for fugitive finally over

A woman, surnamed Tang, has been charged with accidental­ly killing her newborn while secretly giving birth in a public toilet in Wenzhou. Tang, 22, went to a restroom to deliver the infant in September, but her baby died after falling into the toilet. Prosecutor­s say her negligence led to the tragedy. Tang, a migrant worker from Chongqing, discovered she was pregnant after breaking up with her boyfriend in late 2016. A local court has accepted the case and is arranging a public hearing.

The suspect, surnamed Yin, went on the run following a homicide and robbery in 2002 in Zhenjiang. Knowing his name was on a police wanted list, he used a relative’s resident’s permit as an ID, and said he often lived rough and moved about to avoid detection. He was caught when officials processing his applicatio­n for a work permit in Ningbo, Zhejiang province, discovered that the rightful owner of the resident’s permit he was using had recently died.
