The city of Dunhua in Northeast China’s Jilin province has opened 431 public training centers and launched a series of 300 grassroots lectures to promote the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.

The training centers, known as among Jilin locals, are houses of learning with a long history in the province.

Now they are being put into use to study President Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as well as government theory, policy, law, technology and culture.

Bayinchaolu, Party chief of Jilin province, said that it is the training centers’ mission to spread the new spirit. The centers are located all over Dunhua, from on the premises of enterprises, in schools and military camps, to villages and government departments.

The Jilin government has provided support for the construction of new-era training centers in terms of staffing, financing and the purchase of relevant materials. Since Wang Xiaoping, head of Jilin province’s publicity department, inaugurated the first training center in a small village of Dunhua’s Yanminghu town in November, the province has opened 16,946 centers in more than 9,300 villages and 1,400 towns.

More than 50,000 related activities have also been launched in Jilin during the first half of the year.

“We hope the centers can promote the implementation and guide the practice of the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress,” Wang said.

“Jilin will continue to build the new-era training centers as an important platform for the implementation of Party theories.”

As the home of the first newera training center, Dunhua attaches great importance to their promotion across the city, including it in its annual performance appraisal.

By the end of last year, training centers had been established in 303 villages, 35 governmental departments, 19 communities, 52 campuses, major enterprises and military camps.

To make the centers truly effective, Dunhua has set up a team of 170 speakers, which includes municipal leaders, professional lecturers and legal workers to promote better scientific and cultural knowledge.

According to Dunhua government, speeches and lessons will be given at the new-era training centers covering the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress, poverty alleviation, village tourism, aquiculture, traditional culture, transformation of social traditions and other sectors.

In addition to popularizing the latest thought and theory, the new-era training centers in Dunhua have launched volunteering activities.

Dunhua has set up more than 60 volunteer teams and held more than 80 events, benefiting the social welfare of more than 40,000 residents.

“Since the new-era training centers were established in our village, people often come to study theory and agricultural technology, as well as watch performances,” said Wang Xiuxiang, a villager of Yanminghu town.

Xu Xiuzhi, an 88-year-old woman from the Linfeng community in Dunhua, said, “I feel so grateful for the volunteers, who not only help me to clean my house, but also talk to me to relieve my loneliness.”

Linfeng community in Dunhua has set up seven volunteer teams to build a characteristic service brand. The volunteer teams have assisted the locals in more than 5,000 daily routines and administrative matters.

The law enforcement volunteer team have solved more than 200 legal rights cases for residents and the healthcare volunteer team has helped carry out free physical exams for more than 800 locals as well as delivering medicine to more than 300 residents.

Other volunteer teams have launched cultural events, helped the elderly with psychological problems, assisted residents in the search for employment . They also hosted labor skill training and helped troubled students to return to school.

The volunteers from the Dunhua union of literature and art have put on performances, literature readings and hosted art lessons in rural areas and small communities.

Before this year’s spring harvest, the volunteers communicated with village heads, model households and farm machinery manufacturers to help provide training most needed for farmers to maximize their yields. To build an efficient and flexible scientific training system for farmers, Dunhua has launched themed lectures which help to share the typical experiences of model farmers. The city has hosted more than 60 agriculture-related lectures.

To the convenience of the staff and workers, the city has established a system allowing them to make appointments online and offline.

Jilin will continue to build the new-era training centers as an important platform for the implementation of Party theories.”
