Li Yanhong quits Unicom board citing hectic life

China Unicom Ltd said Li Yanhong (pictured), a member of the board of directors and the board’s strategic developmen­t committee, has resigned, citing hectic schedules of his other roles. Li is the founder, chairman and CEO of Baidu Inc, China’s top online search engine. A vice-president from Baidu will succeed Li on the China Unicom board. In October, China Unicom privately placed 9 billion shares with strategic investors, including domestic tech giants Tencent Holdings Ltd, Alibaba Group Holding Ltd, Baidu Inc, JD Inc and Suning Commerce Group Co Ltd. In January, China Unicom elected new board members.

Cheetah Mobile Inc said Xu Ming, its president, will leave the company on July 21 due to personal reasons. Xu will remain as a consultant for the company’s strategic developmen­t. Fu Sheng, CEO of Cheetah, and Sun Mingyan, Cheetah’s senior vice-president, will take over Xu’s role. Xu has over 10 years’ experience in the developmen­t of internetre­lated products. He led his team in the successful developmen­t of Clean Master, a popular app to clean up users’ computer hard drive and make the device run faster. its new chief marketing officer. Wang has over 13 years of experience in marketing and branding across industries like internet technologi­es, e-commerce and consumer goods. Prior, he served as vice-president and general manager for marketing at Yi Cheng Yi Jia Internet Technology Co Ltd. Zhou Xinming, CEO of Hexindai, said he is pleased to have Wang on the management team. Hexindai’s business will develop further under Wang’s leadership, he said.

Rockwell Automation Inc appointed Ian Shih as its president for China operations. Shih joined Rockwell in 2008, and was in charge of two key lines of products. Shih has work experience in China, North America, South America and Europe markets. In his new position, Shih will report to Joe Sousa, president for Rockwell’s Asia-Pacific businesses. Sousa said Shih’s background and his understand­ing of Chinese culture make him a perfect leader. Rockwell will achieve higher growth under Shih’s leadership, he said.

Meifangyun­ke appoints Liao Yongbin as GM

Meifangyun­ke, a provider of virtual reality services, appointed Liao Yongbin as its general manager. Liao will take over from Wei Zhongyang who resigned on June 15. Zhou Rui will succeed Xiao Ke as deputy general manager. According to news website Wabei, Wei will continue to sit on the company board. Xiao resigned due to personal reasons and won’t serve in any other role.
