- By HU YONGQI

The Kuwaiti amir’s state visit to China, which started on Saturday, represents a new flourishing period of relations between the two countries, said Kuwaiti Ambassador to China Samih Johar Hayat.

Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s visit will cement the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, he said. “The Kuwaiti-Chinese ties are deeprooted and strong,” he said.

The relations are a unique example of the fruitful bilateral ties based on the strategic partnership, he stressed.

The amir leads the highestlevel delegation since the first visit to China made by Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in 1965, the ambassador pointed out.

The two countries will sign a number of agreements and memorandums of understanding in various fields that will be added to the 50 inked over the past 50 years, he said.

Such agreements and memorandums of understanding aim to promote partnership and cooperation between the two countries, and open new horizons of joint action in different sectors, he said.

The amir will be a guest of honor at the eighth ministerial meeting of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum as the first Arab leader to deliver a speech, the ambassador said.

The amir’s attendance as a guest of honor of the forum shows the strength of the Kuwaiti-Chinese relations, he said.

On the Belt and Road Initiative, Hayat reiterated the importance of strengthening economy between the two countries and reviving the ancient Silk Road, which will contribute to the world economy.

Reviving the Silk Road project will help Kuwait restore its leading role in the commercial and economic fields in the region given its particular geographic location, Hayat said.
