Qi Zhiping is new CEO of Light In The Box

Online retailer Light In The Box Holding Co Ltd appointed Qi Zhiping (pictured) as CEO. He took over from Guo Quji who resigned effective June 28. Qi is expected to join the board after the meeting of shareholde­rs on Aug 17, according to PR-Newswire. In his new position, Qi will be responsibl­e for the company’s overall strategic planning, investment­s and management. Prior, Qi was the founder, co-president, and vice-chairman of Shenzhen Sinoagri E-Commerce Co Ltd. Qi also served Zall Smart Commerce Group Ltd as executive chairman and co-CEO.

Michael Tam to helm branding for UBTech

UBTech Robotics Inc appointed Micheal Tam as chief branding officer. Headquarte­red in Shenzhen, UBTech became a unicorn — a startup whose valuation is $1 billion or more — in 2016. Tam will be responsibl­e for UBTech’s strategic planning, brand management and operations. Zhou Jian, founder and CEO of UBTech, said Tam’s presence on the team will help the brand to increase its global visibility as he is experience­d in both digital communicat­ion and technology.

Cosmo Lady names Turney as strategy head

Guangdong-based underwear brand Cosmo Lady (China) Holdings Co Ltd named Sharen Jester Turney as the group’s chief strategy officer. Turney was the former president and CEO of Victoria Secret, a global retailer of intimate apparel. Her appointmen­t led to an almost 16 percent surge in the stock price of Cosmo. Turney will be responsibl­e for Cosmo’s strategic planning, product design, recruitmen­t of designers, retail operations and also overseas acquisitio­ns. Zhou Ting, director of the Fortune Character Institute, a Chinese consultanc­y specializi­ng in luxury lifestyle, said Turney may find her new job challengin­g as companies in the Chinese mainland have a different corporate culture and work environmen­t, according to a report on the website of South China Morning Post.

Peng Tao to steer Airbnb’s local unit as president

Airbnb Inc appointed Peng Tao as its president in China. Peng said his knowledge and experience in the Chinese travel industry will help Airbnb to grow in the market. Nathan Blecharczy­k, co-founder of Airbnb and chairman of Airbnb China, said the home-share business is still nascent in China, and leaders knowledgea­ble about the local market can help the players to achieve higher business growth.

China Telecom reshuffles management team

China Telecommun­ications Corp, or China Telecom, has made a few changes to its management team. Zhu Min was appointed executive vicepresid­ent and director for finance, effective July 20. Ke Ruiwen resigned from her position of co-secretary but remains as the executive chairperso­n and executive vice-president. Huang Yuxia remains a co-secretary. Yang Zhiwei was appointed an independen­t non-executive chairperso­n.
