Society: Alibaba to test self-driving cars
E-commerce giant Alibaba was issued a permit to test self-driving cars on the roads in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, last week. The permit, issued by the Hangzhou government at an artificial intelligence summit of the 2018 Computing Conference, will allow Alibaba to test its autonomous driving technologies in the Artificial Intelligence Town in the Yuhang district of the city, where the company has its headquarters. Wang Gang, chief scientist of Alibaba’s AI labs, revealed that the company’s latest self-driving technology can effectively handle complex traffic conditions and is undergoing tests on public roads.

The China House Vision exhibition, attended by 10 top companies including Haier, Xiaomi and BMW Mini, and 10 renowned architect and designer teams such as Kenya Hara, Shuhei Aoyama and Ma Yansong, is presenting prospective “future homes” and lifestyles in Beijing. Forum: Challenge not to lose temper for 21 days
A teacher’s challenge to third graders and their parents to “keep the peace” made headlines recently. Cheng Hong, a teacher at the Zhuhua Road Elementary School in Wuhan, Hubei province, asked his class of 44 students and their parents not to lose their temper for 21 days. By the end of the challenge, a set of twins and their parents were the only ones from the class who passed. The intention was to show how the family environment can affect children’s ability to control their anger, according to the teacher. The assignment is said to have made many parents realize the impact their emotions have on their children.
