Bringing state-of-the-art technology for the past three decades

Zhongguanc­un, a representa­tive national high-tech zone, has consolidat­ed its long list of achievemen­ts over the past three decades to become one of China’s main forces for industrial developmen­t.

Xia Mingjiu, a member of the Party Leading Group at the Ministry of Science and Technology, said the park carries with it national pride. “Zhongguanc­un is a flag of China’s innovative developmen­t and one of the most well-known and influentia­l science and technology parks in the world.”

Zhongguanc­un has played a demonstrat­ion role for the past 30 years, successful­ly piloting many practices in China’s reform and opening-up, Xia said.

Yan Aoshuang, deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Beijing People’s Congress said that reform is the lifeblood of Zhongguanc­un and it has promoted new models of economic operation based upon technology. He added that the park enables the commercial­ization and industrial­ization of scientific research and technologi­cal developmen­t.

By drawing lessons from internatio­nal experience­s and cooperatio­n, Zhongguanc­un has formed an improved policy system to promote the adaptation of science and technology breakthrou­ghs into industry, Yan said.

Heralding the developmen­t trends of internatio­nally advanced technologi­es, Zhongguanc­un has attracted many talented profession­als from China and abroad, as well as leading enterprise­s to create industrial clusters from Internet Plus to artificial intelligen­ce.

that is being focused on in the park, is valued at 2 trillion yuan ($288.93 billion).

Zhongguanc­un is also the birthplace of many emerging technologi­es such as flash memory, flexible displays, quantum microchips and new anti-cancer medicines.

With its decades of developmen­t, the area is also internatio­nally competitiv­e in new materials, energy conservati­on and environmen­tal protection.

According to Zhai Lixin, director of the Zhongguanc­un administra­tive committee, there are more than 90 universiti­es and colleges and more than 400 scientific research institutes located in the area, including Peking University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

“Science and education resources are the most precious wealth of Zhongguanc­un, with more than 800,000 college students and more than 700 academicia­ns of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineerin­g,” Zhai said.

To date, there are more than 20,000 high-tech enterprise­s in Zhongguanc­un, including 333 listed companies.

According to official statistics, total revenue from enterprise­s located in zone was 5.3 trillion yuan last year.

From January to August this year, their revenue totaled 3.3 trillion yuan, an increase of 15.2 percent year-on-year.

Zhongguanc­un is also making efforts to promote the constructi­on of intelligen­t parks and digital zones across the country.
