Society: Parking project for courier vehicles

Chongqing has piloted a new method of providing parking spaces for food delivery and courier vehicles in order to enhance city management. For vehicles providing special services, such as food and express deliveries, the new area will see specialize­d parking spaces. The municipal postal administra­tion will issue stickers and purchase insurance for package delivery vehicles, while food delivery businesses will also have special stickers for their vehicles.

Culture: Oil painting village in Shenzhen

Dafen village in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, used to be famous for its reproduced oil masterpiec­es. Home to more than 1,200 art studios and over 8,000 painters, Dafen’s replica artworks are popular at home and abroad. With declining demand for replica works and an increasing­ly large market for originals, the village has shifted

its focus from reproducti­on to renovation. There are now some 300 artists working at the village focusing on original artwork.

Photos: Bookstore gets nominated for top prize

Bookstore chain Fang Suo Commune has been nominated for this year’s London Book Fair Internatio­nal Excellence Awards. The organizer announced the shortlist earlier this month on its official website, saying that 26 countries received nomination­s, with the United States leading the way with five. Fang Suo Commune will compete with the BOA Bookstore of Vietnam and Unity Books (Wellington) of New Zealand for the Bookstore of the Year Award. It is the only nomination China has received for this year’s shortlist, and the prizes will be announced in March.

Entertainm­ent: BBC set for series partnershi­p

BBC Studios and Beijing-based Phoenix Entertainm­ent Group will coproduce a Mandarin version of the popular British science fiction television series Life

on Mars. The series follows a present-day police officer who mysterious­ly travels back in time to 1970s Manchester following a traffic accident. The audience follows the protagonis­t as he attempts to ascertain if he is dead, dreaming while in a coma, or has in fact time-traveled. The Mandarin version will be based in 1990s Beijing.
