Wireless networks will serve as pillar factors in the construction of a more intelligent world in the next decade, said an industrial leader at the annual Huawei Global Mobile Broadband Forum on Wednesday in Dubai.

The event delivered the message that by 2030, society will be operating on the foundation of a deeper integration of the physical world and digital tools. The mobile internet will be expanded to have full senses.

On the commercialization front, people will find it more effective after using digital tools as early as decision-making stage rather than just using it as a tool.

Environmental protection is another key issue that concerns society for the future.

The world which will feature a greener growth mode and higher awareness about network security.

“This time, Huawei has put forward 10 industrial trends for future wireless networks in the next decade,” said Wang Tao, a Huawei executive board director.

“The company looks forward to working together with the industry to define the future of wireless network technology and building a more intelligent world.”

The first trend will be about building a bridge between the virtual and reality.

With enhanced ability of mobile networks in communications, the sharing of human senses such as hearing, vision, touch and smell in fast speed has become a reality.

That reality has expanded and will continue to deeply enrich the ways of human communication.

Therefore, the mobile network must be able to support a 10 gigabyte-per-second experience with millisecond delay and the transmitted information should become more semantic.

The second trend will take place in the field of the internet of things. By 2030, the cellular network will be capable of serving a 100-billion scale IoT connection.

To develop a full-scene and full-type IoT, it is necessary to classify the IoT in accordance with its speed, build a more reliable network environment with less delay, and then introduce a new working format with ultralow power consumption.

Third, the network for mobile-satellite service will be further upgraded to supplement the coverage of mobile networks on the ground and realize threedimensional coverage at nearground space.

With the cutting-edge technology and the trillion-dollar industrial scale of the mobile communication industry, the satellite communication field will make new achievements in technology upgrade while embracing new market success.

Another new trend will involve the deep integration of communication and human perception, which can realize the real-time construction of the physical world and support the high-level operation in automatic driving and UAV management.

Efficient integration of communication perception requires integrated air interfaces and integrated network architecture as well as the use of technologies such as large bandwidth and multiple antennas to improve the resolution ratio to a morethan-centimeter level.

In 2030, integrated wireless network and artificial intelligence technology will be seen to bring intelligence to every industry and all-form connection, which will inevitably enhance the automatic operation and its maintenance in a green and low-carbon way.

The increasing need for highperformance mobile networks is likely to boost the upgrading of energy consumption technology, which was the sixth trend mentioned by Wang at the event.

To achieve the goal, the consmooth cept of energy consumption needs to be considered as a basic factor and end-to-end energy conservation and efficiency design should be carried out from all supply chains covering air interface, equipment, stations and network infrastructure.

It is estimated that by 2030, most countries will need an average bandwidth of 2GHz and millimeter waves greater than 20GHz to serve the needs of the market.

Moreover, it is necessary to reconstruct the spectrum mode and use a handful of innovative technologies such as multi-frequency fusion to improve the spectrum efficiency by 10 times.

The next trend involves the reduced cost per bit via the generalized multi-antenna technology. With the continuous reduction of such costs, multiantenna technology must be brought into every frequency band and scene.

The ultra-wideband modular sky surface will then be able to serve the flexible combination of multiple frequencies.

The continuous development of technologies such as intelligent reflectors will also make multi-antenna away from morphological constraints, and then realize cloud management and improved performance.

In the following decade, the role of security will be further stressed and be regarded as the cornerstone of the digital future.

Building a secure and resilient mobile communication network requires endogenous security at the equipment level and intelligent security operation and maintenance at the network level, as it is necessary to achieve integrated protection and oneclick disposal.

The final trend, but certainly not the least important one, is about the deep collaboration of diverse platforms in the network management.

By 2030, mobile networks will be applied to multiple services in diverse scenarios.

A new working format that can realize seamless, uninterrupted, real-time and on-demand highquality services will then be needed.

“The 10 industrial trends of wireless networks mentioned above are just a starting point for the upcoming 10 years,” Wang said.

“Huawei will make joint efforts with the entire industry to turn the idea of intelligent world in into a reality in 2030.”
