What the NPC deputies say
He Yuling, NPC deputy, deputy director of Anyang station, Institute of Archaeology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences
The Yinxu Ruins was the capital of the Shang Dynasty (c.16th century-11th century BC), and a highly developed bronze civilization was unveiled there thanks to the persistent efforts of generations of archaeologists over the past century. Over the last decade, my colleagues and I have made various significant discoveries: roads that accommodated several chariots running side by side; a large area where a royal scenic garden and pond were situated; and a method used to make the gigantic Simuwu (Houmuwu) ding bronze cauldron (a sacrificial vessel). All these discoveries and studies have led research at the Yinxu Ruins to new heights. We welcome everyone to the newly opened Yinxu Museum for a rendezvous with the millennia-old Shang civilization.
Yin Tongyue, NPC deputy, chairman of Chery Automobile Co
Over the past 20 years, together with other Chinese and Sino-foreign joint venture automakers, we have become one of the backbones of “Made in China” products, and have built China into the world’s leading exporter of automobiles. However, we believe that if we aim to truly become a global power in the sector, it’s not enough to simply expand the volume and scale of sales. We have to have our own globally recognized brand. To achieve that, we have to hold the core technologies in our hands.
Liu Chuanjian, NPC deputy, chief pilot at the Civil Aviation Flight University of China
The fourstripes emblem on the shoulder of a captain’s uniform represents professionalism, knowledge, skills and responsibility. It has reminded me that I am not only operating the control sticks, but I am also responsible for many lives. I am not just facing machinery and equipment, but ferrying countless happy families. When I fly, I don’t see the passengers, but as the plane prepares to taxi and take off, I always say to all the passengers in my heart, “Safely delivering you to your destination is my responsibility.”
