BREGUET

-

Abraham-louis Breguet (1747-1823) spent most of his days in Paris where he studied and excelled in the art of watchmaking. His inventions were as fundamental to horology as they were varied, and his career started with a series of breakthroughs including the development of the successful self-winding perpétuelle watches, gongs for repeating watches and the first shock-protection for balance pivots. Today more than ever, its capacity to innovate reflects a brand vitality. Breguet devotes its 2017 pre-basel launch to women, with the launch of the latest Traditional Dame7038, radiantly attired in rose gold. Breguet has successfully feminised a model whose aesthetic essence lies in mechanical horology, a field that tends to lean towards masculinity. At first look, the barrel can be seen hand-engraved with a rosette motif and overlapped at 12 o’clock by a dainty offset dial in natural white mother-of-pearl, finely adorned with hand-crafted engine-turned “Clou de Paris” hobnailing. It is encased in 18k rose gold with delicately fluted caseband and a bezel set with 68 brilliant-cut diamonds.
