The Astronomia Octopus, released for Basel 2017, is unmistakeably bold with its complex nature, symmetrical composition, and mesmerising movements. This eloquent timepiece is a true work of art, cased in a new sapphire monoblock casing that allows the sculpture and complications to be admired from multiple angles. The sculpture appears fully entwined in the JCAM16 manually wound calibre and its sapphire component took a staggering 37 weeks to produce, excluding the time to engrave, sculpt and assemble. Because of the added complexity, there is only one such piece in the world.
